Based on the preliminary data as of 30 June 2024, the total number of the registered marriages in the National Capital Region for the year 2023 reached 51,492 or 13.1% share from the total registered marriages in the country. The City of Makati recorded 1,795 registered marriages from January to December 2023 with contribution of 3.5% share from the total number of registered marriages in the National Capital Region (NCR) and 0.5% share from the total number of registered marriages in the country. Refer to Table 1 below.
In the National Capital Region, Quezon City reported the highest number of registered marriages with 15,830 (30.7%) while the Municipality of Pateros recorded the lowest number with 207 (0.4%) registered marriages. The City of Makati ranked as 10th city with the highest number of marriages in the region. Refer to Figure 1 below.
Registered marriages decreases in 2023
The total number of registered marriages in the City of Makati posted an increase of 15.4% from 1,729 in 2021 to 1,996 in 2022. However, a decrease of 10.1% was recorded from 1,996 in 2022 to 1,795 in 2023. Refer to Figure 2.
In year 2023, the months of March (182), July (178), and December (175) emerged as the periods with the highest number of registered marriages. In contrast, April and September recorded the lowest numbers of registered marriages, with 109 and 105, respectively. The months of May, June, August, October, and November showed relatively stable numbers of registered marriages, with figures ranging from 131 to 158.
The first quarter of 2023 recorded the most number of marriages with 521 marriages or 29% share of the total number of marriages in that year, while the third quarter of the same year recorded the lowest number of marriages with 414 marriages or 23.1% share of the total number of marriages.
The highest recorded number of registered marriages in the City of Makati over the three years was recorded on December 2021 with 275 marriages or 15.9% of the total registered marriages in that year, while the lowest recorded number of marriages was recorded on August of the same year with 44 marriages or 2.5% share from the total number of marriages in 2021. Explanatory Notes
The data on the number of marriages, and deaths presented were obtained from the vital events registered, either timely or belatedly, at the appropriate Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrar throughout the country and subsequently submitted for encoding to the Office of the Civil Registrar General through the Provincial Statistical Offices (PSOs) of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) https://psa.gov.ph/statistics/vital-statistics. The information presented includes vital events that occurred from January to December 2023 based on data files received by the PSA - Civil Registration Service (CRS) from the PSOs and has undergone initial processing as of 30 June 2024. Thus, the figures presented herein are still provisional and may differ from the final count. (1) The vital events of Filipinos abroad are not yet included in this release, but Filipinos whose usual residence is abroad and foreign nationals with vital events occurring in the country during the reference period were included in this report.
Vital Statistics are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register. Vital acts and events are the birth, deaths and marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual's entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. Recording of these events in the civil register is known as vital or civil registration and the resulting documents are vital records.
Marriage is a special contract of permanent union between a man and woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life.
Monthly Average refers to the arithmetic mean of marriage occurrences per month.
Place of Occurrence refers to the place where the vital event took place.
