Manileños reaches to more than 1.8 million in 2020
The total population of the City of Manila reached to 1,846,513 based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH). This city is accountable for about 14 percent of the total population of the National Capital Region (NCR) (13,484,462) as of 01 May 2020.
Total population in the year of 2000, 2010, 2015, and 2020 are gradually increasing. Compared to the previous census year (2015), the total population of Manileños increased by 66,365 in 2020.
Population of the City of Manila increases by 0.77 percent annually from the period of 2015 to 2020
The Population Growth Rate (PGR) of the City of Manila from the period of 2015 to 2020 is 0.77 percent. PGR indicates how fast a population increases or decreases as a result of the interplay of births, deaths, and migration during a given period of time.
This means that the population of the City of Manila increased by 0.77 percent annually or eight Manileños per 1,000 population every year from 2015 to 2020. However, compared to the PGR from 2010 to 2015, PGR from the period of 2015 to 2020 decreased by 0.66 percentage points.
Population Density increases by 3.7 percent from the period of 2015 to 2020
With a land area of 24.98 square kilometers, population density of the City of Manila registered 73,920 persons per square kilometers in 2020. This showed an increase of 2,657 persons (3.7%) from 71,263 persons in 2015.

Tondo registers as the most populous administrative area in the City of Manila
Among the 14 administrative area in the City of Manila, Tondo has the highest population in 2020 with 654,220, followed by Sampaloc with 388,305, and Santa Ana with 203,598. The combined population of these three administrative areas is accounted for 67.5 percent of the total population of the City of Manila in 2020. Moreover, about seven out of 10 Manileños were in these areas. Also included in the top five most populous areas were Santa Cruz with 126,735 and Malate with 99,257. The area with the least population was Intramuros with 6,103 or 0.3 percent of the total population of the city.
