QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES –The Philippine Statistics Authority Provincial Office II (covering Quezon City and City of Marikina) conducted two (2) batches of third level training for the 2022 January Labor Force Survey (LFS) and 2021 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) visit 2 which consist of two classes per batch and were scheduled last December 13 to December 18, 2021 and January 3 to January 8, 2022. The venue for the said training was held at University Hotel, Guerrero St, Cor Aglipay St, Diliman, Quezon City for batches 1 and 2, respectively.

The LFS aims to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population towards the estimation of the levels of employment and unemployment in the country. Furthermore, it also aims to provide high frequency statistical information to understand the current situation of employment and the economy of the Philippines during the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. The FIES is a rider survey to the LFS. It is one of the major household-based surveys undertaken by the PSA conducted every three years of two separate visits as a source in the estimation of poverty incidence.

This 2021 FIES Second Visit will be able to capture the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on the expenditure pattern of families with the adoption of the 2020 Philippine Classification of Individual Consumption According to Purpose (PCOICOP). Data that will be gathered on this undertaking are the basic inputs in the estimation of our country’s poverty threshold and incidence. In addition, results generated will act as a basis for policies and programs of our government to improve the socio – economic status of the Filipino people.

The 2021 FIES Second Visit covers data for the period of July 2021 to December 2021 which will be collected from the randomly selected household samples. The PSA NCR PO II has 1,631 sample households in Quezon City and 1,643 sample households in the City of Marikina. A total of 6 Assistant Focal Person and 107 Statistical Researchers were trained on the concepts and definition about the LFS and FIES forms to widen their knowledge and improve their arsenal for this PSA undertaking. They were observed by trainers in a mock interview during the last day of training to assess the knowledge of trainees and their readiness for the survey using CAPI.

The enumeration period for the 2022 January LFS and 2021 FIES – second visit will be on 10 January 2022 to 31 January 2022.
