QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES –The Philippine Statistics Authority Provincial Office II (covering Quezon City and City of Marikina) conducted the third level training for the Third quarter 2022 Backyard Livestock and Poultry Survey (BLPS) last September 27 to September 28, 2022. The venue for the said training was held at the PSA NCR PO II office located at 75 EDSA Cor. Corregidor St. EDSA Grand Residences 8th Floor barangay Ramon Magsaysay Quezon City.

The Backyard Livestock and Poultry Survey (BLPS) is one of the major agricultural surveys conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). This survey aims to generate estimates on inventory, supply and disposition, and other related data of livestock and poultry commodities at the household level.

The data gathered in this survey are as follows; type of operation, inventory, born live/ hatched live, acquired, sold live for slaughter and for other purposes, slaughtered/dressed in the household, number of deaths, average lightweight, average farmgate price, egg production indicator for poultry, and milk production for carabao, cattle and goat.

The data generated from this survey are disseminated through Situation Reports (annual and quarterly), infographics, and publication. More importantly, the production data generated from the survey are direct inputs to the valuation of production in Philippine agriculture and fisheries, accordingly to the computation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

It aims to provide data to the government planners, policy makers and administrators in formulating social and economic plans, policies, and program.

The conduct of the 2022 BLPS is in accordance with Republic act (RA) No. 10625 (Philippine Statistical Act of 2013), which authorizes the PSA to prepare and conduct periodic censuses on various sectors of economy and Executive Order No. 352 mandating the conduct of survey every quarter.

The 2022 BLPS Third quarter survey covers data for the period of July 2022 to September 2022 which will be collected from the randomly selected household samples. The PSA NCR PO II has a total of 54 sample household. A total of 1 Assistant Focal Person and 1 Statistical Researcher were trained on the concepts and definition about the BLPS forms to widen their knowledge and improve their arsenal for this PSA undertaking. 

The enumeration period for the Third quarter BLPS 2022 will be on 01 October 2022 to 08 October 2022.
