QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES- The Philippine Statistics Authority Provincial Statistical Office II (covering Quezon City and City of Marikina) attended the April 2023 Consumer Expectations Survey (CES) Task Force Training on 16-17 March 2023. The Provincial / Third Level training was then conducted by the office on 22-23 March 2023. This was attended by 11 Statistical Researchers (SRs) and selected Office based employees at 8th floor EDSA Grand Residences, 75 Corregidor St., cor. EDSA, Quezon City.
 

The April 2023 CES is to be undertaken, in collaboration with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), in 56 provinces representing all regions except Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). 

The CES is a household-based survey on the consumers’ assessment of their family income, financial situation, and the economic condition of the country. It is administered on a sample basis at the household level drawn through a stratified multi-stage random sampling with a total sample of about 5,000 households. The CES is a complementary survey to the Business Expectation Survey (BES) of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

The survey’s objectives are to provide a quick and regular assessment of the financial condition of consumers and economic condition of the country at present and in the near future, from the consumers own viewpoints; generate forecasts in the direction of the country’s economic activity based on consumers outlook in the current quarter, next quarter and the next 12 months; provide quick and regular assessment of consumers’ confidence in terms of their income and expenditures as well as their outlook on key economic indicators closely monitored by the BSP such as inflation, exchange rate and interest rates; provide quick and regular assessment of the outstanding debt situation of the household head, their spouse / partner, their children and other family members at present.

The PSA NCR PSO II has a total of 401 sample households in Quezon City and 97 sample households in the City of Marikina. To increase the understanding and strengthen the toolkit of the assigned employees for this PSA project, a total of eleven (11) hired Statistical Researchers and other six (6) involved employees underwent training on the concepts and definitions related to the CES forms. On the final day of training, the trainers observed the participants in a mock interview to evaluate their preparation for the survey using Computer-Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) and Paper-and-Pencil Interview (PAPI) data collection methods.

The enumeration will be conducted on 03 April to 18 April 2023.
