Data on marriages presented in this special release were obtained from the timely and late registered marriages at the Office of the City Civil Registrar of Las Piñas and submitted to the Office of the Civil Registrar General through the Philippine Statistics Authority-National Capital Region Provincial Statistical Office V (PSA-NCR PSO V). The information presented includes marriages that occurred from January to December 2022 based on data files received by the PSA-Central Office from the PSOs that were registered as of 31 July 2023. The figures presented herein are not adjusted for under registration.
Number of registered marriages increased by nearly half in 2022.
In 2022, the City of Las Piñas registered a total of 2,619 marriages, reflecting a 44.5 percent increase from the 1,813 marriages recorded in 2021. Compared to pre-pandemic figures, there was a 20.3 percent increase in registered marriages between 2019 and 2022. The crude marriage rate (CMR) rose to 4.2, or four marriages per thousand population, up from 2.9 per thousand in 2021. On average, seven marriages were solemnized daily. (See Figure 1)

Most number of marriages were registered in December.
The month of December was the most preferred month to tie the knot in 2022 with 370 marriages (14.1% share). The month of March ranked second with 307 marriages (11.7% share), followed by the month of September with 242 marriages (9.2% share). The least number of marriage occurrences in 2022 was the month of January with 129 marriages (4.9% share). The months of February and August followed with 152 (5.8% share) and 158 (6.0% share) marriage occurrences.
In terms of daily average, the months of December, March, November and September recorded higher daily average compared to the city average with more than seven marriages per day. Meanwhile, the month of January had the lowest daily average of four marriages per day. (See Figure 2)

Majority of couples married between ages 25 to 29 years.
In 2022, the majority of women who married were 28 years old, with their male counterparts also predominantly marrying at the age of 28. Among the age groups, the highest proportion of brides, representing 37.3%, were aged between 25 and 29 years. Similarly, most grooms, comprising 30.6%, also married within the 25 to 29 age range. These findings indicate that the preferred age for marriage among both men and women in the City of Las Piñas is between 25 and 29 years. (See Figure 3)
Additionally, 35 brides, representing 1.3 percent, were teenagers, reflecting an increase compared to the previous year's figure of seven brides, or 0.4 percent, out of 1,813 marriages. Meanwhile, 106 men, comprising 4.0 percent of the grooms, married at age 60 and over, a significant rise from the 35 grooms reported in the previous year.

Other religious rites are most frequent among types of marriage ceremonies.
In 2022, of the total registered marriages in the City of Las Piñas, 1,714, or 65.4 percent, were solemnized through various religious rites, marking a 0.1 percentage point increase from 2021's 65.3 percent share. Conversely, two in ten marriages, totaling 606 or 23.1 percent, were officiated in the Roman Catholic Church, while 298 marriages, representing 11.4 percent, were conducted through civil ceremonies. Additionally, there was one reported marriage conducted under Muslim tradition. (See Figure 4)

Most of the couples were single before they tied the knot.
Almost all the couples in the City of Las Piñas were first-timers or single brides and grooms prior to their marriage in 2022. It translated to 2,540, or 97.0 percent, and 2,397, or 91.5 percent, respectively, among the registered marriages in the city. Only a small percentage of brides and grooms were widowed and divorced prior to the marriage. (See Figure 5)

Nine out of ten marriages are timely registered.
Ninety-six percent or 2,536 number of marriages registered in the City of Las Piñas were registered on time while 83 or more than three percent were registered late. (See Figure 6)

Technical Notes
Civil Registration is the recording in the appropriate civil registers, vital acts and events that affect the civil status of individuals.
Vital Statistics are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register.
Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual's entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. Recording of these events in the civil register is known as vital or civil registration and the resulting documents are called vital records.
Marriage - is a special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life. It is the foundation of the family, a social institution that is governed by law and not subject to stipulation.
