Data on marriages presented in this special release were obtained from the timely and late registered marriages at the Office of the City Civil Registrar of Parañaque and submitted to the Office of the Civil Registrar General through the Philippine Statistics Authority-National Capital Region Provincial Statistical Office V (PSA-NCR PSO V). The information presented includes marriages that occurred from January to December 2022 based on data files received by the PSA-Central Office from the PSOs that were registered as of 31 July 2023. The figures presented herein are not adjusted for under registration.
Number of registered marriages increased in 2022.
In 2022, the City of Parañaque registered a total of 1,875 marriages, reflecting a 36.9 percent increase from the 1,370 marriages recorded in 2021. Compared to pre-pandemic figures, there was a 6.0 percent decrease in registered marriages between 2019 and 2022. The crude marriage rate (CMR) rose to 2.4, or two marriages per thousand population, up from 1.8 per thousand in 2021. On average, five marriages were solemnized daily. (See Figure 1)

Most number of marriages were registered in October.
The month of October was the most preferred month to tie the knot in 2022 with 305 marriages (16.3% share). The month of June ranked second with 212 marriages (11.3% share), followed by the month of December with 185 marriages (9.9% share). The least number of marriage occurrences in 2022 was the month of January with 83 marriages (4.4% share). The months of August and April followed with 87 (4.6% share) and 109 (5.8% share) marriage occurrences.
In terms of daily average, the months of October, June, December, September and February recorded higher daily average compared to the city average with more than five marriages per day. Meanwhile, the month of January and August had the lowest daily average of three marriages per day. (See Figure 2)

Majority of couples married between ages 25 to 29 years.
In 2022, the majority of women who entered into marriage were 27 years of age, while their male counterparts predominantly married at the age of 29. Among the age groups, the highest proportion of brides, representing 38.5%, were aged between 25 and 29 years. Similarly, most grooms, comprising 30.8%, also married within the 25 to 29 age range. These findings indicate that the preferred age for marriage among both men and women in the City of Parañaque is between 25 and 29 years. (See Figure 3)
Additionally, 13 brides, representing 0.7 percent, were teenagers, reflecting an increase compared to the previous year's figure of six brides, or 0.4 percent, out of 1,370 marriages. Meanwhile, 68 men, comprising 3.6 percent of the grooms, married at age 60 and over, a significant rise from the 23 grooms reported in the previous year.

Civil ceremonies are most frequent among types of marriage ceremonies.
In 2022, out of the total registered marriages in the City of Parañaque, 819, or 43.7 percent, were conducted through civil ceremonies, reflecting a significant increase of 23.4 percentage points from the 20.3 percent share in 2021. Conversely, four in ten marriages, totaling to 755 or 40.3 percent, were solemnized through other religious rites, while 301 marriages, representing 16.1 percent, were officiated within the Roman Catholic Church. Most of the couples were single before they tied the knot.
Almost all the couples in the City of Parañaque were first-timers or single brides and grooms prior to their marriage in 2022. It translated to 1828, or 97.5 percent, and 1,787, or 95.3 percent, respectively, among the registered marriages in the city. Only a small percentage of brides and grooms were widowed and divorced prior to the marriage. (See Figure 5)

Nine out of ten marriages are timely registered.
Ninety-six percent or 1,800 number of marriages registered in the City of Parañaque were registered on time while 75 or 4.0 percent were registered late. (See Figure 6)

Technical Notes
Civil Registration is the recording in the appropriate civil registers, vital acts and events that affect the civil status of individuals.
Vital Statistics are derived from information obtained at the time when the occurrences of vital events and their characteristics are inscribed in a civil register.
Vital acts and events are the births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages, and all such events that have something to do with an individual's entrance and departure from life together with the changes in civil status that may occur to a person during his lifetime. Recording of these events in the civil register is known as vital or civil registration and the resulting documents are called vital records.
Marriage - is a special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life. It is the foundation of the family, a social institution that is governed by law and not subject to stipulation.
