Six percent to the total population of CAMANAVA were Senior Citizens
 
     The results of the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015) showed that the total population of NCR IV CAMANAVA composed of the four cities namely Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela, reached 2,819,388. Six percent of which or 176,521 were senior citizens or persons aged 60 years or over.  By Age group, 60-64 years contributed the highest with 41.9 percent and followed by age group 75-79 years with 26.7 percent, age group 70-74 years with 14.3 percent, age group 65-69 with 9.4 percent and lastly age group 80 years and over with 7.6 percent.

Sex Ratio is at 74 Men per 100 Women
 
     In 2015, the total population of NCR IV senior citizens (persons aged 60 years or over) reached 176,521 with 42.7 percent men (75,328) and 57.3 percent women (101,193). These data resulted to a sex ratio of 74 which means that there were 74 males per 100 females.

More than Half of the population of senior citizens were still married               

     More than half of the population of senior citizens or 54.9 percent (96,830) were still in compact of marriage; while 30.9 percent (54,482) were already widowed. Seven percent (12,970) of their population were single or those who were ever since unmarried, 4.2 percent (7,371) were common-Law/Live-In and 2.7 percent (4,869) were Divorced/ Separated.

99.5 Percent of the Senior Citizens Were Literate 
 
     According to the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN), there were 176,521 persons aged 60 years and over in NCR IV- CAMANAVA. Among the population 60 years old and over, 175,683 persons or 99.5 percent were literate. In the 2015 POPCEN, a person is considered literate if he/she is able to read and write a simple message in any language or dialect.
 
     The literacy rate among males aged 60 years and over was recorded at 99.8 percent while 99.5 percent was recorded among female senior citizens in 2015.

More Senior Citizen female managers than males in 2015   

    By major occupational group, 11,783 of the senior citizens to total gainful workers of 56,310 in the CAMANAVA were working as managers. This was followed by the craft and related trades works with 18.0 percent or a total of 10,035 and the service and sales workers with 17.0 percent or a total of 9,801 individuals. Meanwhile, on the occupations which need physical strength, men still dominate these occupations while there were more female managers than males.
 
 
Fifteen Percent of the Senior Citizens were declared as household head   

     The head of the household is an adult person, male or female, who is responsible for the organization and care of the household, or who is regarded as such by the members of the household. A total of 101,490 or 15.19 percent of the senior citizens (60 years and over) were declared or regarded as household head. Among the household heads, 61,948 (61.0%) of them were males while 39,541 (39.0%) were females.

TECHNICAL NOTES
 

     The 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015) was undertaken by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in August 2015 as mandated by Republic Act No. 10625, otherwise known as the Philippine Statistics Act of 2013. It was the 14th Census of Population that was undertaken since the first census in 1903. POPCEN 2015 was designed to take an inventory of the total population all over the Philippines and collect information about their characteristics. POPCEN 2015 made use of the de jure concept of enumeration wherein households and persons are enumerated in the area where they usually reside as of the census reference date. 
 
 
 
Total population - the sum of the household population and institutional population. It also includes Filipinos in Philippine embassies, consulates, and missions abroad 
 
Household population - comprises of persons who belong to a household, the basic criterion of which is the usual place of residence or the place where the person usually resides   

Household  - a social unit consisting of a person living alone or a group of persons who sleep in the same housing unit and have a common arrangement in the preparation and consumption of food 
 
Marital status - the personal status of each individual with reference to the marriage laws or customs of the country 
 
Sex ratio - the ratio of males to females in a given population, expressed as the number of males per 100 females

Age  - the interval of time between a person’s date of birth and the census reference date (1 August 2015). Expressed in completed years (as of last birthday), it is recorded in whole number 
 
Simple Literacy Rate - the proportion of persons aged 10 years and over who are able to read and write a simple message in any language or dialect
 
Head of the Household - an adult person, male or female, who is responsible for the organization and care of the household, or who is regarded as such by the members of the household
