The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in coordination with the Department of Energy (DOE) will conduct the 2023 Household Energy Consumption Survey (HECS) on 17 June to 19 July 2024. This is the fifth in the HECS series which started in 1989. The succeeding surveys were conducted in 1995, 2004, and 2011. The conduct of this survey aims to update the data about household energy related practices, awareness, and attitudes.
This survey specifically gathers information on households’ utilization of fuels, supply systems, patterns of energy use, and other indicators that may be useful to assess the current energy profile of different households and communities in the country. The data that will be gathered from this survey will be used as valuable inputs in the formulation and implementation of the energy plans, policies, programs, and relevant energy research; and will also provide a reliable and updated data as this survey is a major component of the Comprehensive Regional Energy Study in the Philippines (CRESP).
In connection with this, the Philippine Statistics Authority National Capital Region Provincial Statistical Office I (PSA-NCR PSO I) has a total of 955 sample households – 408 in the City of Manila, 394 in the City of Mandaluyong, and 153 in the City of San Juan. The office hired three (3) Team Supervisors (TSs) and 10 Statistical Researchers (SRs) who will conduct the interviews on the sample households using tablets through the Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) application.
Moreover, PSA-NCR PSO I encourages the public especially the sample households to show their continued support for the success of this survey by participating and providing truthful and absolute information to the SRs.
