The number of establishments decreases by 1.3 percent.

The number of establishments in NCR decreased by 1.3 percent to  67,349 in 2021 from  68,263 during the previous year. Likewise, the number of employees also decreased by  3.7 percent to 2,328,177 from 2,418,831, respectively.

Relative to the entire country, NCR contributed 24.0 percent to the number of establishments and 38.4 percent to the number of employees in 2021. See Table 1 for details.

Meanwhile, by major sector group, The number of establishments in Services increased by 0.2 percent to 61,829 in 2021 from 61,690 in 2020, Industry, on the other hand, decreased by 16.1 percent to 5,479 from 6,532 establishments, respectively, while the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing maintained its figure across the period.

Figure 1 compares the number of establishments by major sector group in NCR from 2020 to 2021. Refer to Table 1 for details.


The value of compensation goes down by 5.1 percent.

The value of compensation for employees in NCR decreased by 5.1 percent to PhP 994.8 billion in 2021 from PhP 1048.1 billion in 2020. Similarly, most of the share went to Services with 88.8 percent or PhP 883.1 billion, followed by Industry with 11.1 percent or PhP 110.0 billion, and the rest to Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing with 0.2 percent or PhP 1.8 billion. At the national level with PhP 1936.4 billion, the region shares more than half, or about 51.4 percent.

Figure 2 presents the value of compensation by major sector groups for NCR for 2020 and 2021. Refer to Table 1 for details.

Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles records the highest number of establishments.

Among sectors, Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles registered the highest number of establishments with  25,381 or 37.7 percent of the total number in the region. This was followed by Accommodation and Food Service Activities with 9,939 or 14.8 percent, and Financial and Insurance Activities with 8,54 establishments or 12.1 percent. In terms of the number of employees, the top three were Administrative and Support Service Activities, Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles, and Manufacturing with  774,342 employees or 33.3 percent, 338,215 employees or 14.5 percent, and  164,322 employees or 7.1 percent, respectively.
 

Figure 3 presents the 2021 percentage distribution of establishments and employees by Sector in NCR. Refer to Table 1 for details.

Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles ranks the highest among sectors in terms of revenue and expense.

Among sectors, Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles recorded the highest with 2.2 trillion pesos or 26.9 percent of the total revenue, and 2.1 trillion pesos or 30.1 percent of the total expense, and a ratio of 1.05 pesos revenue per expense.
