Quezon City, Philippines – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has released the inflation rate and Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for the National Capital Region (NCR) for February 2025. The data reveals key economic indicators that provide insights into the cost of living for the region's residents and businesses.
Inflation Rate
In February 2025, NCR recorded an inflation rate of 2.3 percent, marking a slowdown from the 2.8 percent inflation rate recorded in January 2025. This decrease reflects a slower rise in the prices of commonly consumed goods and services, suggesting a moderation in inflationary pressures and a positive shift in consumers' purchasing conditions.
The primary drivers of the inflation rate for this period include decrease in the prices of housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, followed by the index of restaurants and accommodation services and personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services.
Furthermore, food inflation dropped to 4.4 percent from 5.6 percent last month, reflecting a decline of 1.2 percentage points. This decrease was primarily driven by lower inflation in vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas, and pulses, particularly tomatoes (fresh or chilled), which accounted for 34.3 percent of the overall reduction in inflation.
Consumer Price Index (CPI)
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for NCR in February 2025 stood at 124.7 percent, representing a rise of 2.8 percentage points in the overall cost of a fixed basket of goods and services compared to 121.9 percent in the previous year.
