Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647, “Declaring the Month of October of Every Year as the National Statistics Month”, signed by then President Corazon C. Aquino on September 20, 1990, the NSM is annually observed nationwide. The NSM celebration aims to: (a) promote, enhance and instill awareness and appreciation if the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society; and (b) elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “NSM @32 Revving Up for Economic and Social Recovery Through Evidence-Based Policies”. Among the highlights of the month-long celebration is to recognize the contribution of media practitioners in the use and widening of public understanding of official statistics.

With this, the Philippine Statistical System (PSS) is encouraging the general public to participate in the celebration of the 32nd NSM nationwide.

In celebration of this activity, the PSA - National Capital Region Provincial Statistical Office I (PSA-NCR PSO I) prepared various activities for the whole month of October.

This was also inspired by the “Recharge PH” Program of the government which rallies all sectors of the economy and all the Filipino people to adopt a “whole of society approach” to unite and contribute towards economic recovery. The theme emphasizes the importance of statistics as bases for policy decisions to address the socioeconomic impact of COVID-19.
