PSA-NCR V staff enthusiastically participate in various activities during the kick-off celebration of the 35th National Statistics Month.

07 October 2024 – Pasay City. The 35th National Statistics Month (NSM) officially commenced on October 4, 2024, with a vibrant motorcade organized by the Philippine Statistics Authority – National Capital Region Provincial Statistical Office V (PSA-NCR PSO V), in coordination with the City Government of Pasay. The motorcade, which started at the PSA-NCR PSO V office, made its way through the major thoroughfares of Pasay City, marking the start of a month-long celebration aimed at highlighting the indispensable role of statistics in governance, development planning, and informed decision-making.

Following the motorcade, a Holy Mass was officiated by Father Subrata Costa of Sta. Clara Parish Church. The Opening Program took place in the afternoon, with Ms. Judie Rhisa G. Baluran, Supervising Statistical Specialist, delivering the opening remarks. In her address, Ms. Baluran emphasized the significance of quality data collection and underscored the importance of digital transformation in enhancing the statistical system amid the rapid advancements in technology.

Mr. John Daniel V. Flores, Statistical Specialist II, then took the stage to discuss the relevance of celebrating NSM, as well as the significance of this year’s theme and its official poster. The program also featured a presentation by Ms. Apple Jane P. Ore, Statistical Specialist II from the regional office, who shared the Regional Results of the 2023 Family Income and Expenditure Survey and the 2023 Full Year Official Poverty Statistics. Ms. Baluran concluded the program with her closing remarks, and a group photo was taken to commemorate the opening event.

To further amplify public awareness about NSM and the vital role of statistics in everyday life, a diverse lineup of activities has been scheduled throughout the month. Among these are various interschool competitions, including poster-making, comic-strip creation, and data-storytelling, all designed to engage students in creatively interpreting and presenting statistical concepts. Additionally, a slogan-making contest and a statistical quiz bee for employees will foster engagement and knowledge-sharing among participants. To strengthen professional skills, capacity-building workshops will be conducted, while a statistical exhibit in selected malls across the cities covered by PSA-NCR PSO V will showcase the real-world applications and impact of statistics in national development. These activities aim to inspire a deeper understanding and appreciation of statistics across different sectors of society.

This year’s NSM theme, "Advancing Data and Statistics Through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation," highlights the crucial role of technology in modernizing the statistical system. The theme emphasizes how digital tools and platforms improve government services by enhancing the accuracy, timeliness, and accessibility of statistical data. Through digital transformation, decision-makers, policymakers, and stakeholders are better equipped to formulate data-driven policies that contribute to national empowerment and progress.

The National Statistics Month was first observed in 1990, following the issuance of Presidential Proclamation No. 647, signed by then-President Corazon C. Aquino on September 20, 1990, declaring October of every year as National Statistics Month.

The NSM celebration seeks to promote nationwide awareness and appreciation of the value of statistics across various sectors of society. It also aims to foster public cooperation in improving the quality and standard of statistics in the Philippines.
