Manila, Philippines — The Philippine Statistics Authority-National Capital Region (PSA-NCR) successfully held an Information Caravan on 25 February 2025, at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Manila. The event aimed to educate students about the importance of civil registration and statistical data while empowering them with access to essential government services.

The caravan event, held at PUP’s Recto Hall, drew a strong turnout of students eager to explore the PSA’s role in delivering accurate, timely, and relevant data to guide public policy, planning, and national development. The program featured engaging presentations and activities that highlighted the vital role statistics play in shaping the nation’s future.

“Our goal today is to deepen the public’s appreciation for statistics and encourage active participation in improving data standards across the Philippines,” said Mr. Kenneth James Nuguid, Chairperson of PUP’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics. “Together, let’s harness digital transformation to build an empowered nation through reliable and relevant statistics.”

Key highlights of the caravan included:

  • Educational Sessions: Presentations showcased PSA’s core functions, including censuses, surveys, and regional publications like the Regional Social Economic Trends (RSET), Women and Men (WAM), and Data Enclave Centers. These underscored how PSA’s work supports sectors such as economics, health, education, and social services.

  • Mobile Civil Registration Outlet: Individuals can access information on government-issued documents, including birth and marriage certificates, and other civil documents.

  • National ID Services: Individuals could register for the National ID system, check their ID status, or obtain digital versions of their IDs.

PSA-NCR reiterated its commitment to making statistical data accessible to all Filipinos, fostering a data-driven culture that enhances societal progress and informed decision-making. The caravan also aligned with PUP’s mission to equip students with knowledge and skills for academic and professional success, strengthening the partnership between PSA-NCR and the university to promote data literacy among the youth.

The event concluded with an open forum, allowing students to engage directly with PSA-NCR representatives and gain practical insights into the everyday relevance of statistics.

The PSA-NCR Information Caravan at PUP is part of a broader effort to boost public awareness and data literacy nationwide, paving the way for a more informed and engaged citizenry.
